Bowling Winners in Tenerife
Perth Bowling Club members and friends enjoyed
another great week of bowling in the sun during
January 2017, competing in the Tenerife Green Bowls
Pairs Tournament at the Winter Gardens, Golf Del Sur.
After over ten years competing in this tournament
the Perth bowlers almost achieved the impossible
by winning the open and plate competitions with
Harry Hutchison and Susan Hutchison of Perth Bowling
Club beating Andy Rettie of Perth Bowling Club and
Sue Sayer of the Teide Club in the final of the Plate
competition whilst Alex Lunn of Almond Valley
Bowling Club with his partner Christine from the Teide
Club forced the local reigning champions to an extra
end in a thrilling 18 end game. In a tournament with
32 teams competing this was a great result, and to  really
put  the icing on the cake six players helped beat
England in the annual Scotand v England bowling match.

The dreams of 15 members of Perth Bowling Club have been answered, with all 15 qualifying to play in the Bowls Scotland finals, which take place at Northfield Ayr, at the end of July.  This is the first time such a large number from a Perthshire club have made it through to the final in the same season and its a great credit to the club and all their members.  Two quotes from the History of Perth Bowling Club which was founded in 1853.  "For the first time in the clubs history a rink reached the finals of the Scottish Bowling Association Rink competition in 1951", and it was proposed that all members playing in the Scottish Finals should be suitably attired but this was turned down by the members as one bowler remarked "I can only play in my galluses and braces"  Changed days indeed
